The New Normal

Now is an opportunity to develop structure and routine. If you are working from home, or worse, not able to work, it is important to establish some routine to give structure to your days. This will steer you well on the days that you are not doing so great. Remember to work towards small walks in the sunshine, and regular meal times. It will provide some structure to your days.

Variety & Gratitude For What You Have Right Now

Take it one day at a time. All may not be lost; it may be changing form. We always grow for the better from our experiences. This should be no different. Life is a journey and an adventure. We don’t always win at everything. Its getting involved that is important.

Smaller Meal Portions
One thing I have found is we should be eating smaller meals. Our calorie intake is not as high, as our normal daily life, as we now move around our homes, so our meals should become lighter and we will feel less sluggish in the morning and after meals.

Every Day is Different
Some days are better than others, and some days we feel the world is ending. Take every day as a new day and don’t think too much into the future. This is your chance to live in the NOW that we have all read about! Don’t look back into the past, or into the future.

As the Buddha said, … “to eat when I am hungry, or to sleep when I am tired; is a miracle”. Life is an art and we are the artist. Cultivate some habits that have value and will improve your daily life experience.

Safe Distance
I prefer this term, which shows respect for the other person as well as yourself. We don’t have to cease contact with each other, we just need to change the way we reach out and connect. Online dinner parties, or online socializing are the new thing. We don’t have to be disconnected, we have tools to connect now more than we have ever had before.

Reaching out with a quick message to friends to let them know that you’re thinking of them is important. Initiate contact and don’t let it slip away. Life is too short; make the most of it.

Create Rituals
Cultivate new habits. Start the day with a large glass of warm water and learn to be more mindful (present), when you are eating. Introduce small amounts of healthy foods and keep things light and healthy as we move into spring.

Cultivate one new habit that is good for your health. It can be anything, switching to green tea, introducing chia seeds, taking a walk after dinner. Whatever you choose, make it simple, achievable and something that you enjoy!

Move
Sitting at the kitchen table, on the sofa, or balcony all day? We need to stretch and move our bodies. Creating breaks hourly are ideal with some small movements or a couple of walks a day (like you would when you commute!) to counter-balance our sedentary lifestyles of late.

Spring Clean
There’s really no excuse now, to de-clutter and put things aside that you don’t really need, which can be donated once we can leave the house. As our priorities shift, we realize we have so many things; more than we need. It’s time to let some things go, and create a simpler lifestyle.

And finally, when life throws you lemons, adapt and make some lemonade.
